There is really no reason not to study abroad, but it is still a big decision to make, especially when you are just finishing high school.

But, the benefits of studying abroad in Ireland will stand the test of time and open you to a whole new world of possibilities.

Aside from the obvious academic benefits of studying in some of the top Universities in the world, here’s just 10 of the many reasons why you should consider studying abroad:

1. Learn another language

In today’s global economy, your future employment prospects are greatly enhanced when you are able to speak a number of languages – especially English. Also, by completing your undergraduate or postgraduate studies in a different language, you’d be surprised by how quickly your skills develop and become a lifelong skill for your CV.

2. It looks great on your CV

Speaking of CV’s, a period of study abroad or a degree from a country such as Ireland or the UK will look very impressive when you are seeking employment back in your home country.

3. Meet people from all walks of life

Studying abroad in a diverse environment with people from all over the world will help you develop your people skills and learn about different cultures – which will all help you in your future career path.

4. A new independent you

Leaving your friends and family to study abroad will help you gain your independence and although it may not be easy to start, you’ll soon be loving the freedom of making your own decisions and fending for yourself.

5. Living abroad is different to a holiday

Visiting a new country on holiday is great – you see the sights, try the food, have a lovely time then head home. Living and studying abroad means you are immersed into a different culture – you learn the local customs, make friends with local people and experience the places that only locals know.

6. Develop a global outlook

Learning about other countries and cultures from your new friends while you study abroad will help you gain a different perspective on things – which is a key part of your time abroad and will help you view things in a new light when you return home.

7. Experience a different education system

Studying in a different country will expose you to different teaching methods and ways of learning to what you are used to at home. Here in Ireland, we combine theory and academic study with practical experiences both on an individual basis, as well as working in a group.

8. Enhance your International career prospects

If you are looking to pursue a career in an international company, studying overseas is looked upon very favourably by employers. So whether you decide to return to your home country or seek employment overseas, your study experiences will be a key selling point to prospective employers.

9. Appreciate your family and friends more

As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder! And that is true when you spend an extended period away from your family and friends at home. It does take a bit of effort on your part to keep in touch with your family and friends whilst you’re away, but that little bit of effort will make a stronger bond with them on your return home.

10. It’s an amazing experience

The friends and memories you make whilst studying abroad in Ireland will be some of the most memorable in your life. Make the most of your time and experience as much as you can, as this will be one of your greatest adventures.
