Academic English Courses in DIFC with Direct Placement into Universities in Ireland & UK

Academic English Course IELTS and ETAPP

  • IELTS is the recognised English test accepted for entry to higher Level Institutions in Ireland and UK.
  • ETAPP is the recognised English test from ACELS (Irish Department of Education) for entry to Higher Level Institutions in Ireland.

The Course will be run over 6 months and 3 months

  • 6 month course from March – August 2012 entry requirement minimum 5.5 IELTS
  • 3 month course will be run over 3 months from June – August 2012 entry requirements minimum 5.5 IELTS
  • Direct placements, if students would like us to place them in one of our Partner Universities in Ireland or UK (limited options) they must complete our application form including their academic record which we will send to our Partners to obtain a Conditional Offer Letter for a place on their programmes.  Students must meet academic entry requirements of University.
  • This course is suitable for students who wish to progress to Undergraduate or Masters Courses in Ireland or UK.
  • EU students, please note if you wish to apply for a place in Irish University you must apply through the CAO system and the closing date for last applications for entry to Irish Universities in 2012 is  31st January 2012

Course
There will be 20 hours in class per week, textbooks will be handed out.  The course will include listening, reading, writing and speaking skills.  The course will focus on English for Academic Purposes so will prepare students for listening and note-taking, preparing and delivering presentations, writing assignments etc.

Students can decide to take the IELTS or ETAPP test as follows:

  • IELTS test will be held at regular dates in IELTS Centre  University College Dublin
  • ETAPP test will be held in DIFC by ACELS examiners, test will be held on the week beginning May 30th and week beginning August 15th.

6 month course                       €4,950.00
3 month course                       €2,550.00
Exam fees for IELTS or ETAPP are in addition to above fees  i.e. IELTS €185.00, ETAPP €125.00. Fees include placement service to place students in Partner Universities in Ireland or UK.

Pre-Foundation English Courses

Our pre-foundation English courses are designed to prepare you for our NCUK foundation courses.

When you apply to DIFC, you will be tested for English language ability. If you do not have sufficient English to begin the foundation course you have chosen, you will first be offered Pre-Foundation English courses.

Classes are run throughout the year at the following levels:

  • PFE 1 - Elementary
  • PFE 2 - Pre-Intermediate
  • PFE 3 - Intermediate
  • PFE 4 - Upper Intermediate

Classes include:

  • General English development including reading, writing, listening, speaking & grammar
  • Exam preparation classes
  • Cultural classes
  • PFE 3 & 4 include preparation for Maths, Science & Business in the lead-up to the IFY start dates

Pre-Foundation English Course Requirements

Students may enrol on a Monday (please check term dates)

Minimum age 17 years.

You must take a course for at least one month: 20 hours per week (or intensive option: 25 hours per week)
